Dear Parents,
The teachers have begun work on the midterm portfolio which will be available in about two week’s time. The students will be tested individually on the material that we have covered in class so far. As all the students have generally been keeping up with the work, I have no doubt that every Martian will perform well during the evaluation.
Hazel has been giving her full participation in class and this is really appreciated. She enjoys doing work in the Phonics textbook and this is great as she is really getting a good review of all the letters along with their sounds. Hazel really enjoys story books and is always happy when I read to the class.
Date: 10/11-10/15
What we have covered:
Reader: Fox on the Box
MPM: E3 Properties
Rhyme: Old MacDonald
Phonics: Review
Song: John Brown’s Chevy
Dear Parents,
The fieldtrip on Tuesday was a success! The trip to Ikea allowed the students to observe realia related to the vocabulary for this week’s topic of the kitchen and last week’s topic of the living room. The students especially enjoyed eating hot dogs at the end of the trip! We learned Halloween songs and made ghosts in class this week all in preparation for the Halloween party at the end of the month. It should be a lot of fun!
Hazel is very well liked in class: whenever we ask the students to pick a friend to help them with a task, Hazel is often their choice. I think that this has to do with her calm and quiet disposition. She gets along well with all of her classmates and never gets into arguments with anyone.
Date: 10/24-10/29
What we have covered:
Reader: I can Run
MPM: E3 Paths
Rhyme: Review
Phonics: Review
Song: Review
Dear Parents,
We’ve been having a fun week doing Halloween activities and preparing for the party on Friday. On Monday we drew Halloween pictures and on Tuesday we made pumpkin soup. We also carved a Jack-o-Lantern and made skeletons for science class. The students have been enjoying children’s story books about witches and monsters as well!
Hazel did well on her evaluation for the portfolio, especially considering that she is a new student! I hope that you are enjoying the pictures, video and samples of her written work. If you have any questions concerning anything in the portfolio please feel free to let me or Teacher Nevia know. I’m looking forward to seeing Hazel’s fairy costume on Friday!
Regards,
Teacher Christine

Careful and Considerate
I like hazel cares about the surroundings (especially me !).
When we use one umbrella, she would look if i am in the umbrella or not.
And she would ask if I have fully cover under the umbrella.
Hazel likes to ask me what am I doing the whole day in the morning on the way to the school or after the school.
Not sure why she is interesting to know but it seems to be a sweet thought.

Radio Crazy
Every night hazel would like to listen to the ICRT. She loves to dance with the those pop music. In this case, she not asks to watch the cartoon much now.
The problem is hazel would ask her daddy turn the TV "mute" that she can listen well the radio.
It is fun to see her dancing and try to sing with those songs.

Like and Love

I train myself not losing the temper to hazel but not her dad.
Hazel's dad likes to yell at her making hazel listening to him.
Hazel hates her dad yelling at her loud which scares her to crying.
Later, she makes the announcement to her dad.
Hazel: "I don't like you. I love you!"
I think what her meaning is she doesn't like the way her dad does but that doesnot change her love to her dad.
As I tell her many times. I love her no matter if she is doing good or bad.
I love you forever and ever.

Lessons from Hazel
10/3Hazel says " I got to think over how could i earn lots money!". I think and assume hazel just copies what her daddy says~
10/4
Monday, the PE teacher asks girls to wear pants not skirts.
I try to put a skirt on hazel with a tight pant inside. Hazel not likes the idea because she likes to listen to what the teacher says no skirt eventhough i try to explain to her that there is a tight pant under the skirt that she is not wearing the skirt but also the pant. However, I am so angry and leave the bedroom.
Later, hazel walks to me in the living room and explain nicely to me why she needs to do this.
At that time, i feel i am so childish that i loose my temper. I am glade hazel not like me so emotional but find the way to convince me the reason she needs to wear pants.
Sweet Talk

*Hazel: Mom, I don't want go out but staying home on the Moon Festival. I would like to huge daddy the whole day.
*Hazel: Mom, I am so happy that i don't need to go to the school. I could be with you the whole day.
*Mom: Hazel, please help me taking this to the dinning table.
Hazel: Mom, i don't want to leave you. (at the time she talks and also takes the thing to the dinning table.)

Reading Club 9/18

Date: 09/13-09/17
What we have covered:
Reader: Dot
MPM: E2 Counting Objects
Rhyme: My Shoes
Phonics: Consonants x, y, z
Song: The Bugs Are Coming
Dear Parents,
We had a very nice fieldtrip on Tuesday to Wan Hua near Longshang Temple. The Martians got to learn about Taiwanese history and see how much things have changed in the past fifty years or so. The even got to visit the set for the film “Monga”. Other than this we are having fun learning and practicing songs in class as well as reciting rhymes.
I’m very impressed by Hazel’s reading level. I had all the students read for me individually this week and Hazel is just as good of a reader as some of her classmates who have been here for a couple of years. I think this has a lot to do with the fact that she pays attention in class and is always focused during lessons. Great work!
Date: 09/20-09/24
What we have covered:
Reader: Dot
MPM: E2 Spatial Correspondence
Rhyme: Five in a Hive
Phonics: Consonants and Short Vowel “a”
Song: A flea and a Fly
Dear Parents,
We had some nice Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations on Friday morning last week. I think that the students really enjoyed themselves! Thank you for all the snacks from the parents which the whole school shared together after lunch. I hope that everyone enjoyed the holiday on Wednesday and spent a good time with their family.
Hazel continues to be well behaved and attentive in class. She has very good composure and has no trouble sitting nicely. Hazel really enjoys playtime and gets along well with the other boys in the class. She usually plays with Sandra, Chelsea, Hebe and sometimes Jason, too.
Date: 09/27-10/01
What we have covered:
Reader: The Pet Hen
MPM: Show and Tell
Rhyme: Georgie Asked for Fifty Cents
Phonics: Short Vowel “a”
Song: There’s a Hole in the Middle of the Road
Dear Parents,
I think that the Martian class students really enjoyed the outing on Tuesday! We went to the fire station and all the students got to go inside a real fire engine and sit in a fire boat. The firemen also helped them try on their fire hats and the top part a fire suit! Afterwards we went to play at a nearby park for half an hour. Everyone was very happy!
Hazel raises her hand a lot in class and it is really nice to get more of her participation! She is more talkative and less shy than she used to be. Hazel is doing very well with the calendar in the morning and she understands the concept of “last week” and “next week”. I’ve very happy with her progress!
